Things not to do in Germany


Each country has its own unique culture and traditions. The newcomers are welcomed if they show respect to the culture and traditions of the host country. So, if you are new to Germany (student or tourist) then respect the German culture and traditions and ​not do these things.

  • Always stay punctual in Germany.
  • Don’t stand on the cycle lane.
  • Don’t throw garbage in streets.
  • Don’t mix the garbage. Always separate the garbage according to local rules and throw it in the right bins.
  • Don’t play loud music at night or even at the day time.
  • Don’t disturb your neighbors especially between 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. Also, don’t play loud music, don’t do drilling and vacuuming on Sundays especially 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
  • Don’t download anything through pirated channels. It’s illegal in Germany.
  • Don’t visit someone’s home without informing them in advance.
  • Don’t speak loud in public transport.
  • Always buy tickets before traveling on local transport. Also, don’t forget to validate your ticket (after purchasing) in the ticket validation machine. You can find these machines on bus stations, inside buses and trains. Online tickets don’t need any validation.
  • Don’t cross the road on red signal.
  • Always cross the road through zebra crossing.
  • Don’t spit in the streets.
  • Always keep your voice low in religious places.
  • Don’t smoke in public places except for the designated places.
  • Don’t pick fruits from the trees present on someone’s personal property.
  • Don’t show any Nazi symbol, slogan, flag or salute. It’s strictly prohibited.
  • If you see an accident or realize somebody seriously got injured then must call on 112 and inform them. Ignoring an emergency situation or an injured person is an offense in Germany.
  • Respect all the women. What they are wearing is their personal matter.
  • Don’t offer any kind of bribe to any security personal.
  • Don’t touch the children without the permission of their parents or persons in charge.
  • Don’t help elders when they refuse to get your help.
  • Always stay away from drunk people and don’t give them any response even if they shout at you.
