Germany’s Chancenkarte – All you need to know!

The German Government is going to introduce a new point-based system similar to Canada and UK. This point-based system will help non-EU citizens to get Chancenkarte or in other words Green Card.

What is Germany’s Chancenkarte?

Germany’s Chancenkarte will be a type of residence permit that will allow non-EU citizens to live and work in Germany. It will be a points-based system that will take into account factors such as education, work experience, and language proficiency.

What will be the requirements to get Germany’s Chancenkarte?

To be eligible for Germany’s Chancenkarte, you must:

  • Be a non-EU citizen
  • Have a minimum of three years of work experience in your field
  • Have a university degree/other recognized qualification or proof of previously living in Germany
  • Be able to demonstrate that you have the necessary language skills to perform the job
  • Age under 35
  • Have sufficient financial resources to support yourself during your stay in Germany

You will also need to provide some additional documents as part of your visa application, such as proof of work experience, travel health insurance, biometric pictures as well as a valid passport.

Which level of German language skills will require for Germany’s Chancenkarte?

According to current information, you will need to demonstrate that you have the necessary language skills to find or perform a job and to integrate into German society. The exact level of language proficiency is still not known. However, in general, you should be able to speak, read, and write German at a level that is sufficient for everyday communication. This typically means having at least level B1 German language skills, as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

When Germany will start issuing Chancenkarte?

Currently, it’s under discussion and it is expected that Germany will introduce it at end of 2022 or in 2023.

How points will be given for Germany’s Chancenkarte?

Currently, it’s unclear how exactly Germany will award points to the applicants. But it’s clear that the points will be awarded for factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency, and age.

What is the difference between Chancenkarte and a job seeker visa?

If we see the current requirements of both Chancenkarte and job seeker visas then both almost look the same. But it is expected that Chancenkarte will be easy to get as compared to a job seeker visa. You can get a job seeker visa at this time but Chancenkarte will take some time to come into existence.
