What is notary attestation?

Notary attestation means the authentication of photocopies after reviewing and examining the original documents. These documents can be certificates, degrees, contracts, and letters, etc.

Who can notarize documents?

Any registered lawyer awarded with license is authorized to notarize or attest photocopies of original documents. Certified copies basically called notarized copies.

Can I get done notary attestation of original documents?

No, notarization of original documents is forbidden. Only document issuing authorities have permission to attest to the original documents. Notarization only used to attest photocopies. When a lawyer attests with a notary stamp, then he gives proof that photocopy is the same as an original document without any tempering.

How do I get attested a copy of a document?

  • Examine the document to make sure that it is an original. Lawyers don’t make certified copies of copies. They always need original documents to make certified copies.
  • Make copies of all the original documents that you want to notarize. Please make copies of the documents on a white A4 size paper.
  • Visit any nearest Court, Bar Council or law chamber and search a lawyer who has permission for notary attestation.
  • Original documents and photocopies give to a licensed lawyer and request for normal notary attestation.
    • Here normal attestation means attestation with any stamp with black or blue ink. Rectangle, round, silver or golden stamps are just fancy things. They will not increase the worth of your documents. So don’t waste your valuable money on these kinds of stamps.
  • Pay the required fee to the lawyer and also say thanks.
  • There is no particular fee for notary attestation in many countries. Different lawyers charge different amounts. So, pay accordingly.

Document attestation from a first-class magistrate and international notarization not required. So, don’t go for this even if a lawyer insists on this. Only normal notarization is enough for both the admission and visa process.
